The last 6-8 weeks have been super busy at Rooted Sonshine. I am working with the local high school and artists to implement an art club for elementary school kids. I am on the ground level of establishing a community investment fund. I have meetings scheduled to research resources and provider contracts for vulnerable communities.
I am grateful for these opportunities that make me practice what I preach. I am serving local communities. I am using my skills to lift up those around me, while relying on others to exhibit their individual skills that support me. Help one another. It feels good.
Liberty Lake Better Together Fund, as detailed in the April edition of The Splash, is a brand new option for the Liberty Lake community to invest in itself - in one another.
At the helm is Marla Larson. Marla heard about The Oakesdale Community Fund and was immediately motivated to engage Liberty Lakers in something similar.
In Oakesdale, the locals are using funds to make a transformational impact . . . including revitalizing downtown, restoring local historic structures, enhancing public parks and play areas, building partnerships with first responders for community events, and investing in local school and youth development activities.
Larson knew a fund like what was happening in Oakesdale could make it easier for Liberty Lake to do what it had always done (support one another) while taking it a step further (planning for the future).
By partnering with veteran philanthropic and Spokane-local organization Innovia, The Liberty Lake Better Together Fund can accept tax deductible gifts and disperse them to the many individuals and groups who are already doing the incredible work that has created Liberty Lake's charm.
On the ground level, initial committee members Larson, Ross Schneidmiller, and Emily Osborne meticulously drafted the foundational mission:
To support groups, programs, and events that foster a vibrant spirit by financially empowering the Liberty Lake community to celebrate, unite, and enrich our population
This isn't a fund to recreate the wheel or to further stretch pocket books. This fund aims to connect donors to causes they may not have known about, identify and empower new groups, to ensure continued support.
There are always people with the money, people with the time, and people with the passion. Sometimes these are the same people. But often times, it is three different people. The Liberty Lake Better Together Fund will work to unite these three sectors of folks so that everyone can benefit.
With a focus on gathering together, The Liberty Lake Better Together Fund invites YOU to join them at the Kick Off Event Tuesday June 25th @ Trailbreaker Cider.
Liberty Lake is a vibrant community - hosting neighborhood block parties, participating in city-wide bike rides. Its residents are generous - supporting the Entrepreneur Club, sponsoring Little League. And the community is grateful for the amenities and the quality of life - from the history to the opportunities to the businesses to the beauty.
The Liberty Lake Better Together Fund is specifically designed to relish in all those qualities that Liberty Lakers already exhibit while ensuring they endure for future generations.
