In a world hungry for clarity, it’s tempting to cling to certainty—our ideologies, our routines, our tribes. But what if it’s precisely this craving for certainty that’s keeping us from becoming whole?
Right over Human?
We build mental fortresses out of our beliefs. But what if the goal isn’t to be right, but to be human?
"Avoiding the Certainty Trap is about transforming how we think, especially when it comes to the most contentious issues we face—those relating to things like race, gender, intent, inequality, harm, offense, and freedom."
Chip away at walls that separate, by asking yourself:
What do I believe I know for sure?
What might I be missing?
What would it mean to loosen my grip, just a little?
Love Anyway Feasts give us a place to practice these questions in real life. They ask us to set the table not just for those we understand, but also for those who challenge our perspectives. They ask us to trust that generosity—unearned, unreciprocated—can still grow something beautiful.
You’re welcome here. Even if we don’t see the world the same way."
"Working across many organizations, Common Ground USA launched its inaugural Love Anyway Feasts campaign in November 2024. The campaign was created to remind people of the power of community and offer an alternative to division. The main goal was for people to still feel love and understanding for their families, friends, and neighbors after the American elections — especially if they held different beliefs."
Asking the right 36 questions
In the spirit of activist Grace Lee Boggs, 36 Questions for Civic Love is an attempt to help “bring to our communities the limitless capacity to love, serve, and create for and with each other.
This month, consider hosting your own Love Anyway Feast. Or maybe just sit beside someone new. Ask one of those brave, disarming questions. And listen with love and generosity that breaks down loneliness.
