The 2024 winner of We Are Rosie's Greater Good Award is Rooted Sonshine!
The nation-wide Greater Good Award "goes to someone who capitalizes on the flexibility of their freelance career to spend time serving the greater good of their community. This freelancer is funneling their passion into something that makes our world a better place and creates a space of inclusion for humanity."
Values and Mission and Vision . . .
We Are Rosie's "mission is to give voice, visibility, and opportunity to all the people who have been left out or overlooked in this industry. When it comes to industry awards, not getting properly credited is all too common when it comes to freelancers. Plus, [We Are Rosie] believe[s] that celebrating the humanity in our work can help make work more humane."
We Are Rosie recognized Rooted Sonshine as a finalist by sharing, "It is easy to SAY we want a better world for ourselves, our neighbors and our children, but what can we actually DO to make that change happen? Kyla founded Rooted Sonshine, an organization dedicated to building strong and vibrant communities by bringing people together and fostering meaningful relationships. The organization believes a welcoming and inclusive environment creates a sense of belonging that supports everyone in achieving best results toward their group and individual goals. The mission is to promote social interaction, intercultural communication, intellectual stimulation, and practical collaboration that strengthens human connection. Through the programs, events, and initiatives, they aim to cultivate confidence and bolster productivity that is rooted in mutual respect, understanding, and shared values. Rooted Sonshine believes that every small act of human kindness should be celebrated as the potential to be influential and invaluable."
Bringing the mission to life . . .
Rooted Sonshine puts people before profit by being generous and supportive, showing respect and gratitude, looking for ways to grow and learn, and leading with integrity. And we have been successful because of, and not in spite of, this approach.
Rooted Sonshine fosters community via work with Neighborhood Connections, Art Club, Cycling On Purpose., Vivid Co., and more. As our project lists grow, so do our opportunities to connect people. Whether we're promoting events, writing curriculum, or analyzing data, Rooted Sonshine is intentional in bringing people together.
The difference it makes . . .
When I founded Rooted Sonshine, I didn't know what to expect. But I knew I could help. To be recognized by We Are Rosie for doing good is validation that there is more good work for me to do.
